My podcast project focuses on the way in which we receive our news. The theme is centered around how news is being shared during this pandemic. I recently encountered a story about three key organizations that have been helping to combat the coronavirus and how their information had been hacked and further leaked online. I found it interesting to see how easily news can be swept under the rug, or hard to find. Many people that I talked to were unaware of this story, even those who do follow the news. While the threat is minimized (passwords were changed), knowing that hackers were so capable of getting information from these huge staples was shocking. Regardless of where someone gets their news, there is always a level of filtering that occurs. Whether it be on broadcast news, or social media, we are informed solely off by what the reporters tell us, and what companies view as important for people to know. Many of these news sources are reliable and help to keep audiences in the loop. Yet, these ‘smaller’ stories certainly seem to be put on the backburner at times, and my hope was that my podcast drew some attention to this.
