Last December around Christmastime, I visited Staten Island to go to a lantern festival. This picture is of the sunset and the Statue of Liberty which we were able to see from the ferry boat (taken with my iPhone camera).
To edit this picture I adjusted the settings to 700 x 900 with 72 pixels. The size of the photo itself did not change drastically. It didn’t need much cropping but I did straighten the picture. I then increased the contrast slightly to distinguish between the inside of the ferry versus outside, looking through the window. I increased the yellow tones within the picture slightly to enhance the colors of the sunset, making it more lifelike and accurate to how it would be perceived by the naked eye. Next, I balanced the blue colors within the picture which helped to better define the window and the sky. I tried out different fonts and titled it “A New York Sunset”.
Editing can be a useful tool when trying to make a picture come off a certain way. However it’s important to remain truthful in one’s editing. Overdoing it can lead to an inaccurate representation of the subject.
