As the 2020 elections are rapidly approaching, candidates continue to build their base as well as solidify their plans for office. While there are a plethora of news sources providing coverage throughout this process, it is always key to gain the perspective of the people themselves. Regardless of how the news may portray a candidate, it ultimately comes down the opinion of the voters.
I recently conducted a crowdsourcing experiment on my Instagram page and had my followers vote on Sanders or Buttigieg. I continued with a follow up question of “Who do you think would have the most impact if they were to be elected into office?”.
With 47 votes for Sanders, it was clear that the young adult population favors him as a candidate. According to my poll, Sanders has pull within various racial groups. White, Black, Hispanic etc. the results reflected Sanders’ ability to have an extremely diverse range of supporters. Comparatively, one of my older followers (my high school U.S. History teacher) voted in favor of Buttigieg. While it is hard to use this as a conclusive result, it does hint towards Buttigieg’s electability in the older population.
In addition to the poll, the open ended question favored Sanders. Many believe that he would he a bigger impact. While it can be easy to assume this based off of his platforms, I think people often fail to take it a step further and consider whether or not these systems would truly feasible to achieve.
Conclusively, it was interesting to see where family and friends stood on the topic, I hope to conduct a follow-up crowdsourcing experiment as the election get close.
